Warren Alpert Medical School student Dylan Bush wins CUGH Young Leader Award

Congratulations to Dylan Bush, first-year medical student at The Warren Alpert Medical School, for winning the CUGH Dr. Judy Wasserheit Young Leader Award!

Dylan Bush is keenly interested in using his medical and public health knowledge to help underserved communities across the globe. His childhood experiences navigating healthcare with his family have inspired him to address health disparities throughout his career.

Before attending Warren Alpert Medical School, Dylan worked in clinical hepatology research at UC San Francisco for three years. He led the implementation of a novel model for shelter-based hepatitis C testing and treatment.

A massive congratulations to the recipient of the CUGH Dr. Judy Wasserheit Young Leader Award, Dylan Bush! Your passion, dedication, and innovative approach to improving health for marginalized communities are truly inspiring.

During his undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley, Dylan studied abroad in the Solomon Islands, pioneering a project that collected data on the incidence of diabetes-associated amputation. With Fulbright funding, he led the first national study on diabetes-associated amputation in the Solomon Islands. Data from this study are still being used by the Solomon Islands' Ministry of Health and Medical Services as well as the WHO to develop public health interventions.

While he continues to work with partners in the Solomon Islands, Dylan now volunteers with House of Hope in Warwick RI, conducting health outreach to marginally housed patients.
