Strengthening Global Medical Education: A Thank You to The Luke Charitable Foundation

With support from The Luke Charitable Foundation, Brown’s international medical exchange programs with Taiwan and China continue to grow—offering impactful experiences for students while building global connections in healthcare education.

Thanks to the generous support of The Luke Charitable Foundation, our international medical exchange programs in Taiwan and China continue to flourish. These programs provide transformative educational experiences for Brown PLME and medical students, medical professionals, and students from our partner institutions in Asia.

At a special event on April 27, The Luke Charitable Foundation presented a generous gift to the Center for Global Health Equity, reaffirming its commitment to advancing the Brown International Medical Exchange Program with Taiwan.

Here’s a look at what we’ve achieved together through the 2024–2025 academic year:

U.S. to Asia: Outbound Learning Opportunities

  • 12 PLME students participated in summer programs at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in Taiwan, focusing on biomedical culture and healthcare systems.
  • 13 PLME students joined summer programs at Zhejiang University (ZJU) in China, exploring topics such as neuroscience, adolescent health, and clinical department observations.
  • 3 Brown medical students completed one-month clinical rotations at NCKU, gaining hands-on experience in Taiwan’s healthcare environment.
  • 2 residents visited ZJU as clinical observers, deepening their clinical and cultural perspectives within the Chinese healthcare system.

Asia to U.S.: Welcoming Future Global Clinicians

The Center for Global Health and Education (CGHE) proudly hosted:

  • 3 medical students from NCKU (Taiwan) in early 2024 for one-month clinical rotations, with 4 more students scheduled to arrive later this year.
  • 6 medical students from ZJU (China) for two-month clinical rotations, with 6 additional students expected in the coming months.

We are deeply grateful to The Luke Charitable Foundation for helping bridge medical education across borders and fostering a new generation of globally minded healthcare professionals.
