Ana Acevedo, MD
Biography
Dr. Acevedo has always been keenly attuned to her identity as an immigrant with deep roots in Latin America, an awareness shaped in part by her upbringing in Colombia, which informed her perspective on public and global health from an early age. During medical school, she worked to improve health outcomes for immigrant communities in Philadelphia, both through clinical volunteering and by developing research projects that helped secure funding for Puentes de Salud, a local community clinic. She went on to spend a summer in rural Rwanda modernizing electronic health records for pediatric patients, and conducted research examining the impact of COVID-19 on community health workers in the Dominican Republic. She also gained clinical experience in a high-volume emergency department in Santiago, Chile, an experience that deepened her understanding of health systems under strain. Together, these experiences solidified Dr. Acevedo's commitment to a career in emergency medicine focused on strengthening health systems, advancing disaster preparedness, and improving humanitarian response.
