Growing up in India, Dr. Prabhu developed an early interest in global health through exposure to diverse cultures and healthcare systems. In India, she worked with the Aravind Eye Hospital to study spectacle compliance among underserved students in Pondicherry, and later conducted eye screenings and fundraising efforts to support treatment for government school students in Bangalore. During medical school, Dr. Prabhu continued her commitment to community outreach through the Somali Development Center, supporting Somali and Afghan refugees with health screenings, nutrition education, insurance and housing assistance, and legal documentation. She also led Boston University’s Global Health Equity Program, connecting medical students with community organizations and organizing educational panels and speaker events. Additionally, through the Neurodisparities and Health Justice Lab at MGH, Dr. Prabhu contributed to research examining neuropsychiatric risk factors among refugees and forcibly displaced populations and the development of culturally sensitive assessment tools. These experiences have reinforced her commitment to culturally responsive care, community partnership, and advancing health equity in both local and global settings.
