Dr. Shih's commitment to global health equity began at the bedside, working as a labor and delivery doula in diverse, multicultural, and multilingual community settings, where language barriers and cultural differences shaped how families experienced the birthing process. This early experience sparked a lasting interest in women’s health and primary care, which Dr. Shih carried into medical school as the founder of a medical humanities student organization, creating space for peers to explore the intersection of narrative, culture, and clinical care. Dr. Shih went on to pursue research in obstetrics and urogynecology, medical education, and the medical humanities. Now, as an Internal Medicine Resident, Dr. Shih is passionate about about the intersection of women’s health, critical care, and the use of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in rural and under-resourced settings, recognizing its potential to extend timely, life-saving diagnostics. Dr. Shih is excited to bring this blend of community-based obstetric experience, humanities leadership, and interest in critical care in under resourced settings to the BRIGHT community.
