Dr. Sabbella’s commitment to caring for underserved communities began in her undergraduate studies in sociology and Spanish, sparking an interest in how culture, language and social circumstances shape health and access to care. At the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, she helped lead the global health club, where she fostered conversations about current international health crises. She also participated in a service trip with Floating Doctors in Bocas del Toro, Panama, providing primary care to local Ngabe tribe natives. Her interest in advancing preventative care in resource-limited settings has also led her to pursue research examining the potential role of prenatal osteopathic manipulative treatment in reducing the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage, a main contributor to maternal morbidity globally. As a family medicine physician, Dr. Sabbella hopes to continue to develop ways of promoting patient centered preventative care both locally among the diverse communities she serves in the greater Providence area and now globally via the BRIGHT pathway.
