Call for Abstracts for Global Health Research Day

Best Global Health Abstract
Global Health Research Day- Tuesday, April 29, 2025
5pm -7:45pm
The Warren Alpert School of Medicine, 222 Richmond St., LH 160 & Atrium, Providence, RI

Current Brown students, medical residents and postdoctoral fellows are invited to submit an abstract focused broadly on global health and health equity. We welcome submissions from many different disciplines and schools at Brown University.

Abstracts will be presented during the poster session during Global Health Research Day on April 29, 2025, 5pm-7:45 pm at The Warren Alpert School of Medicine.  Global Health Research Day is a forum to showcase research done by Brown students and trainees from across campus working broadly in global health and health equity.   The author of the winning global health abstract will be invited to give a brief oral presentation at GH Research Day and will be awarded a cash prize.

Submissions for the Best Global Health Abstract Award are due April 1, 2025 at 5pm.  We will continue to accept submissions after the deadline for those who want to present posters at Global Health Research Day through April 15 but they will not be eligible for the award.  Final posters for do not need to be submitted for review. 

Review Criteria: Abstracts will be reviewed using this rubric. Submitted abstracts will receive written feedback from reviewers.

Research and Abstract Requirements - Submitted abstracts should be divided into sections: 

  • Background and Research Question
  • Study Design and Analysis Methods
  • Results
  • Conclusions

The entire abstract should be no more than 350 words. Students/trainees must have participated in research addressing health equity or global health topics.  Students/trainees should review their abstract submission with faculty mentors and other investigators before submission.

Best Abstract Eligibility - Current Brown students from all disciplines along with affiliated medical residents and fellows are eligible to submit abstracts. Student must be available to present in-person during Global Health Research Day (April 29, 2025 from 5-7:45pm). Student must be named as the primary author on the abstract. However, a student may be listed as a co-author on a second abstract. One abstract submission per student.  

Abstracts/posters may have previously been presented at a Brown research forum or other scientific meeting/conference.   

Posters can be dropped off at the Center for Global Health Equity (CGHE) Office (339 Eddy St, second floor) prior to the event or brought directly to The Warren Alpert Medical School Building on the GH Research Day between 3pm-4:30pm on the day of the event.

Presenting Posters for Global Health Research Day 
We do not have specific poster size requirements because students can bring posters of various sizes that have been previously presented at other conferences and forums. Typical poster dimensions are often 36'' x 48" or 48'' x 60'', but they could vary.
